Some hated the first Ghost Rider, some loved it, some just thought it was fun, but whatever you’re opinion of the film, Nic Cage will be returning to the role this fall when shooting begins in Romania. And of course following the newest Hollywood trend, it will shoot in 3D.
Nic Cage did an interview with MTV not long ago where he said that this film wouldn’t contradict the first, but that it would be darker and more like the Ghost Rider modern comic readers are familiar with. Cage himself is a huge Ghost Rider fan, and it was reported that he wasn’t satisfied with the campy nature of 2007′s film.
“This story picks up eight years after the first film. You don’t have to have seen the first film. It doesn’t contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we’re pretending that our audience hasn’t seen the first film. It’s as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later – he’s just in a much darker, existential place.” (Taken from the MTV interview)
Sounds like Nic is learning from the first films mistakes. No word on if the rest of the cast will be returning, but sadly, it’s not likely we’ll be seeing our favorite cowboy, Sam Elliott since he died in the first film. Ghost Rider 2 will be directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Also on board as a producer is the first films director Steven Johnson and script writer David Goyer. NC
