Siege #2 promos promised the death of an Avenger, with it’s release Wednesday we found out who. (Warning Spoilers After The Jump)

That’s right my friends, the God of War, Ares was slain by The Sentry this week. Among the mass confusion and discussion that will follow in the weeks to come, one question will stand out, Why Ares?

Ares has really come into his own recently and become a stand out character among the Marvel books since his debut as an Avenger in Mighty Avengers #1. I personally remember talking with our good friend at Comic Related Bill Gladman about him just a few weeks ago, and I mentioned I really thought that Ares was going to die. Among my many reasons why, I felt that because of his son being officially named the God of Fear they would want to use Ares death as a means for him to come into his own, also it may be that Ares doesn’t really fit the heroic image that the Heroic Age is aiming for.

Whatever the case may be, Ares is dead, and Siege #3 is coming soon. What are your thoughts on this death? No doubt he won;t stay dead, but for now at least this Avenger is gone. NC

  1. Bill Gladman says:

Personally I think Ares will stay dead. I hope that Marvel takes the opportunity that Siege is presenting and fixes a few things including killing characters and bringing them back as well as this insane crossovers.
Ares death will not be the last…there’s more coming. And Jef….yes I now recall this conversation…my memory is not quite what it used to be.
