    Review by Bill Gladman

I had the distinct pleasure of filling in as a writer and artist for Tony Miello’s Gapo the Clown web comic last year and I learned that producing a high quality web comic is not an easy feat. I walked away from that little adventure with a little more respect for people who do just that. Who do what Tony has been doing for years.

Writing and drawing a weekly web comic…and making them good. Of course I did find out that working on a web comic can be very fun and very addictive at the same time and have since gotten involved with a weekly web comic of my own but thankfully I’m not drawing or lettering this one. Actually the artist along with the letterer, who doubles as the colorist, can also write and seeing how there is a co-writer attached to this project…that means I only write half of this thing. A lot easier.

Like Mr. Miello, Jeremiah Witkowski has also recently earned my upmost respect as the creator, writer, and artist of the web comic You, Me, and Steve. A very intelligent and entertaining endeavor. The cast of characters are made up of ex- room-mates Max and Jay and their friend Steve who is a spoiled rich kid (and still Max’s room mate)…Steve also just happens to think he’s a super hero…. And there’s a Bigfoot.

I learned about the web comic…from a comic book. A collected edition of the web comics that good friend Jef Price picked up at Mid-Ohio Con about a month ago. You, Me, and Steve #1 collects 50 web comic strips…almost an entire year’s worth of weekly web comics in one regular comic book size issue for the price of only $4.00. That’s what every web comic creator wants, right? A collected comic edition every year featuring his or her last year’s worth of stories.

I know Tony has done it. I own Gapo the Clown #1 and eagerly await issue #2 (which may be out I have to check). I know that’s what I want to do as well. And thankfully that’s what Mr. Witkowski has done. I may have never learned of the web comic if not for this book and now I consider myself a fan of the web comic checking it out once a month and reading three or four of these things at once.

The collected edition of the strip is hilarious. I love Witkowski’s art. And his story telling skills are top notch. Some of my favorite events in the book are of course the ski trip in which Max and Steve meet Bigfoot, who Steve talks Max into bringing home. Later the Bigfoot decides he wants to become Steve’s “sidekick” and go out on “patrol” with Steve.

    Very, very funny stuff.

There’s also a very laughable trip to a comic convention (which includes a slave Leia just like any REAL comic convention should)

All in all the book is a great introduction to a truly high quality web comic worth checking out. 28 pages of wacky, comedic antics that has enough Star Wars references, cameo appearances by Gremlins, and Muppet Newscasters to keep anybody truly entertained. Plus behind the scenes info about the characters and concept art.

Check out the book and the web comic that started it all at the website HERE.

You’ll be glad you did. NC
