Most people know I’m a big fan of Twitter over most all other social networking tools, (except the cell phone of course). Up until this point I’ve mostly used Tweetdeck for my tweeting needs, but recently I’ve been making the move to DestoryTwitter, why? Well for one thing it’s remarkably cool and if that’s not enough for you, read on for all thing good, bad and ugly about this surprising Twitter application. The point of DT is to allow users the ability to manage & control their Tweet fast & easy, with the added ability to control various settings & themes.
The Good: Takes up very little screen space, the ability to create your own themes by logging in with your own Twitter account, complete control over tons of settings ranging from the size of the work space to API calls, Complete Twitter functionality- This is a biggie, you can search, lookup, shorten links, view photos, link photo, uploads, profile details change etc, it’s all here-, uses very little space & take up very little system resources while running. You can also expand the workspace to look like a more fashionable version of Tweetdeck. If you don’t like the look of it, you can send hours creating new themes.
The Bad: Not much to put here, I’d like to be able to manage more then one account at a time (like Tweetdeck) and for Mac OS’s I’d really love it if this were a Dashboard app, rather then one more thing taking up space on my desk top. DT is perfectly suited for Dashboard status & I have no doubt it would be a Apple user fav very quickly given the quality. The only other thing is auto updates, when a new version of Tweetdeck is made available TD tells you so upon start up, DT doesn’t. Also at times it takes up to 3 minutes longer, no matter what your settings, then Tweetdeck to send your Tweet. I’ve been running time tests between the 2 for the last week with the various connection speeds, and while at times it’s fast many times it sends out the same info in the same timeframe, sometimes much slower. Also takes longer to retrieve info from twitter then I feel it should.
The Ugly: NO SPELLCHECK. With other Twitter app’s I’ve used my native Spellcheck always works, with some the grammar check even works, but with DestroyTwitter you’re left without embarrassment protection. If you spell it wrong, to bad, so sad. This should be a basic feature of any communication app like this…. And DestroyTwitter doesn’t have it.
The Nc Take? It’s free, for PC Tweeters it’s Necessary, and if it was able to be used as a Dashboard app it would be for Mac users as well, but for us Mac’s it’s still Very Cool. To be honest if DestroyTwitter was just a tad faster and retrieved/sent info faster, and were to add spellcheck into it’s mass catalog of features, I’d say this would easily be a Premier application. However given it’s few, but kinda major short comings, I’d say this is a solid Very Cool for everyone, and at the least Necessary at least to check it out, for all us Tweet addicts. Bottom line, DestroyTwitter doesn’t quite destroy the competition, but it comes dang close.
