    Categories: Entertainment, Interviews

First let me say how sorry I am to be running this weeks after my talk with Daniel, I simply got behind here and time slipped by. However that being said, this is a wonderful interview, which I was very excited about as I am a very big fan of Daniel’s writing. Deadpool is right now for the first time in the books history, one of my favorite reads, which I look forward to ever month. I could go on, however I think what you came here for was my talk with Daniel, so here we go!

(NC) Thanks for taking time to talk with us Daniel.

    (DW) My pleasure.

(NC) Lets start by talking some Deadpool, I’m a huge fan of your run on it so
far. What’s it been like for you to write someone like Wade?

(DW) Ha! The way you set up that question makes it sound like I’d better not @#$%  up or you’re GONE. What’s it like to write Wade? In a word, “cathartic”.

(NC) Haha Not at all, I simply mean I really like your take on him. I’ve been a reader for a long time, gotta say your work in my opinion is some of the best. How does writing for Deadpool differ from some of your prier work?

(DW) With Deadpool, I don’t have to worry about things like “logic” or “plausibility”. So, the biggest difference? It’s easier. And more fun.

(NC) I bet it is. Now one thing we haven’t heard is much in the way of references to Deadpools past adventures. Such as Six pack, and his time with Cable, do you have plans to refer to any of this in the near future?

(DW) The Cable/Deadpool stuff? Maybe, when the time’s right. Like I did with Bob. I can, however, confirm that Domino will be showing up in the VERY near future.

(NC) Very cool, Domino is always good. Recently, you penned one of my favorite Deadpool moments in recent years and that was the “I am the meat” line. How did that come about, and for that matter what’s the creative process that you use to come up with these, lets call them ‘Wade Moments’

(DW) Thanks, glad you liked it. Usually, they just come to me on the fly, while I’m writing the script. When I write Deadpool, I start with a solid, bare-bones plot and then just kinda…see what happens?

(NC) Cullen our other Co-Founder, loved it and he’s never picked up a Deadpool book in his life. Outside of Deadpool, do you have any other project(s) in the
works you can tell us about?

(DW) I’m really excited about this Starr the Slayer MAX book I’m doing with Richard Corben. RICHARD CORBEN! If you like what I’ve been doing in Deadpool, wait’ll you see what I do when there are no rules.

(NC) We’ll be looking forward to that. There are a lot of would be writers out there, what kind tips or advice would you give them?

(DW) Read a lot, write a lot. Don’t be a hater. If you want to pitch some ideas to an editor at a con, don’t do it wearing a Yu-Gi-Oh costume. Also, don’t pitch ideas to an editor at a con. Self-publish, submit for a Xeric grant. Like I did.

(NC) So no dressing like Deadpool for a pitch huh? Sounds like solid advice. Back to Wade for a moment if that’s ok, is this someone you enjoy writing for? How does he stack up compared to other projects you’ve done?

(DW) My editor has straight-out told me that while he doesn’t understand why my take on Deadpool works, he understands that it works. So I get a lot of leeway, which is rare when dealing with company-owned characters.

(NC) Now what does the writer of Deadpool do for fun when he’s not
    writing comics?

    (DW) Kayaking.

(NC) Now that’s cool, We have an avid Kayaker or two around here. Including myself, I just bought a new Perception yak not long ago. So are we going to see any other big Deadpool crossovers any time soon?

    (DW) YES!

(NC) There’s a lot of comic movies coming out these days and not long
ago we heard that a Deadpool film has been green lit, can we expect to
see you involved with that in any way?

(DW) That’d be much more of a possibility if it was a Marvel Studios film.

(NC) I understand. So how does the new Deadpool book Merc With A Mouth effect, if at all, your work on Deadpool?

(DW) It doesn’t, really. Which is great because I can read it as a Deadpool fan rather than as a, y’know, researcher or something.

(NC) That’s good to know, it always sucks when you have 2 writers and they have to work around each other just because they share a character. Well thanks so much for talking with us, we’d love to do it again soon.

(DW) But only if I don’t @#$% up, right?

    (NC) Haha! Right.
